The Turkish Lung Cancer Society (TLCS) was founded as premier professional association in lung cancer in May 2003 including disciplines of thoracic surgery, radiation oncology, medical oncology, nuclear medicine, thoracic radiology and pathology. The society represents multidisciplinary approach in the lung cancer care policy arena and is dedicated to improve patient care through education.
Lung cancer in Turkey is the most common cancer in men and among the most common in women according to the hospital statistics. Disease specific mortality gradually increased since 1965. In Turkey like other developing countries, causes like risk bearing industry, not restricted smoking in community and unrestrained accessibility of tobacco products in markets despite all regulations will probably increase the lung cancer incidence in near future.
On the other hand, diagnosis and treatment of Lung Cancer increasingly require multidisciplinary approach and translational research which oblige working together. TLCS has a mission to provide an infrastructure for educational and professional development of both our members and physicians who devote a substantial portion of their time to lung cancer. We professionally hold organizations to distribute the updated evidence based multidisciplinary information on lung cancer with contribution of all disciplines in order to ensure standardization in basic diagnostic and management approaches throughout the country.
